The reason for all those precautions is simple. With the growing
popularity and wide-spread use of SCi utilities, some malicious
"hackers" took the freely available source code and used it to
build back doors in some of the programs, and then re-release them
as originals. Now, the .ZIP files have the security envelope and
also contain the necessary checksums to verify the executables.
Also, the checksums are available on the WEB site, in case you
want to verify you have the correct ones. You can also FREQ the
file with the checksums using the magic name 'CHECK' from 1:383/47
